Not sure what could be more American than a Ford Mustang, let alone a Mustang Cobra with a 390hp supercharged V8. Maybe if a bald eagle was driving it, while eating bacon, that might be more American.

It may be the communist in me, but when I hear "American" as a descriptor associated with bald eagles and bacon I envision the stereotypical fat American. A fat American must necessarily drive a big car. The Mustang was a smaller pony car, not a hulking muscle car, which made it more european than its humungous rectangular competitors:

Typing this late at night I've realized several flaws in my argument but am too tired/lazy to address them. Good night, oppo.

PS- That picture with the flag is awesome.

What's more american?

A mustang Cobra with 391HP.

I love the Terminator. Outside of the 2008+ GT500s, it's my favorite "Modern (post Fox Body) Mustang.

Its what I'm aiming to get. One of my friends/neighbors has a mostly stock 2003 coupe he bought brand new sight unseen. All it has is a SLP LM1 catback and a MGW red handle short throw shifter, as well as some auto meter gauges. Only has around 57,000 miles on it IIRC, very clean car. I keep bugging him to sell it to me but no dice lol

I may have said this already to you over the last two years of Oppo, but two years ago I had the chance to buy a 2004 Cobra hardtop with about 80,000 miles on it for ~$10000-$9000 from a dealership (it was listed around 12000 but I could have worked a deal or traded in my current 1998 Mustang). It was white and in good running shape. I declined because I was going to college the next year and didn't want to break the bank on insurance and/or have no money if I run into payment problems for classes. Part of me still regrets it, since I could have turned around and sold that car any time between now and then for at least $15,000, and now really clean examples are going for $24,000+... ugh.

For 10 grand? If it was a clean title, good shape car, the LEAST you could have sold for is 17! Even salvage title cars with higher miles are like 15-16 grand.

I know, right?

One thing that endeared me to the car was that during my most enthusiastic driving, one of the student's father owned a mechanic shops for Fords. He had a 2003 Cobra with a Cobra R kit, completely new suspension, and about 550HP on tap from the engine.

more power is just a pulley and boltons away with those damn things, unlike my car where I'm at the threshold of kaboom-ification with the stock motor. They really overbuilt those cars in most areas. The 10 spline input shaft and rubber IRS bushings, were not some of those areas

Awesome pictures, I want that car. In that color! There is a barn nearby with a big ole Amercian flag painted on it, I would go park it in front of that and take pictures.

I learned to drive stick on a 2003 Mustang 5.0L V8. Man, what a hard car to learn on LOL.

Only one more thing would make it more American:

a gas tank on the same side as the driver, so we don't have to waddle so far away from our Big Gulp when filling the tank.
